Switch It’s humble beginnings trace back to 1988 when Mark Parker, the founder and president of Switch It, helped his wife Carol, an occupational therapist, figure out how one of her young patients could drive a powered wheelchair. Mark drew from his knowledge of highly sensitive and durable proximity sensors used in industrial settings and subsequently pioneered their use as drive controls for wheelchair applications.  Switch It was formed as he found how effective this and other technologies made it possible for persons with disabilities to regain their independence and drive powerchairs and ae well as access other devices through the wheelchair controls.

In addition to implementing ideas from our customer and clinician base and designing new technologies, Switch It continues to evolve by exploring other new technologies and applying them to mobility applications as well as by refining and re-designing our current products specifically for wheelchair use. Mark’s philosophy of bringing smart technologies to powered mobility in order to help persons with disabilities regain mobility and independence has served us well over the last twenty years and will continue to do as we grow and help the powered mobility community both nationally and globally.
